It's a pun. "Great Abomination." It's what the jihadists have
been calling the USA for decades.

No matter who we voted for, we must be proud of the historic moment.
Juan Williams said it, IMO, best:
"Kids in this country are told that each of them can grow up to be
president. Black kids never saw themselves as part of that group.
Today they do"

Interesting.
I don't have buckets (or spoonfulls) of money, but do have 63 acres
with a pond in the middle. At my annual July 4th reunion, the hordes
of family, who have come from a number of states -- and each of which
have brought a trunk load or pickup load of fireworks -- are joined by
friends and neighbors (no charge) while we shoot them off from dusk
'till, usually, well after midnight. Kids and old folks (me included)
are sitting around various campfires, drinking a variety of things and
roasting weenies and making Smoores, while the adventurous among us
lights them off. Members of the VFD are usually here.
No fires or accidents in seven years.
cheers

True. Now add some parents who, unlike you, aren't willing to
apply the appropriate corrective action[0] when their kid does
something stupid, and look anywhere else for someone to blame.
See 3 above.
Example: School truancy is something of a problem around here,
with something like 17 parents convicted in the past year.
http://www.cnjonline.com/news/clovis_30713___article.html/woman_convicted.html
For some reason, these parents haven't been able or willing to
get through to their kids.
<quote>
District Attorney Matt Chandler said of the 16 parents previously
convicted since the program began more than a year ago, only one
has been convicted a second time.
</quote>
Another example: Shortly after my niece started driving, one of
her high school "friends" decided she would try to "surf" the
hood of my niece's car ("Hey, watch this!"). Short version: My
niece gets spooked, tries to stop, "friend" ends up under the
front wheel of the car and has some bruises and soft tissue
injuries, with time in hospital. Come time for court, my niece
stands up and takes what comes, and her "friend"'s dad gets the
charges dropped and won't stand up for my niece in court.
>I've had several serious head injuries from bike wrecks--at least two
>concussions and one fractured skull (after which I bought a helmet and
>*always* wear it on my bike.) I insist that my kids wear helmets when they ride,
It only took me one ride without a helmet. It took my eyes a
week to forgive me (dust, meet hard contact lenses).
>but I am adamantly opposed to the government *telling* me
>that I must do so "for my own good." We know where that leads.
That seems to be the approach in New Mexico law. If you're of
age and competent, it's your business. Until then, it's law or
consequences.

I wish I shared your optimism.
I fear it's just going to polarize the wingnuts on the right even
further. Even wilder conspiracies (than acorn) will come out of the
woodwork.
That they lost just shows they didn't pray (prey) hard enough, work
hard enough -- after all, their success in California on Prop 8 shows
that with enough money, prayers, (and lies) they can succeed.
I fear the divisiveness has only begun.
I look forward to being proven wrong.

What gives me great hope, though, is that the elections do appear to
be more or less fair, and that voting does appear to do something. If
the game is rigged, no amount of fair play can defeat a cheater. But
if the game is fair, the public's minds can be changed, and it will be
reflected in the political outcomes.
I think a lot of the California no-on-8 voters were very complacent,
and underestimated the right-wing presence in that state. Heck, I
even switched my voter registration from California (where I normally
vote) to Pennsylvania because, after all, nothing bad can happen in
California, right? Wrong. We won't be as complacent now.
As for the divisiveness - the country has been divided for 8 years.
It's not at all a new phenomenon.

Actually, leading to Palin being called upon to appoint a
replacement. The smart move would be to appoint herself. which has
been done in other states.

Tragic man. The most savvy foreign policy president we have ever
had. Also probably the most intelligent prez of the 20th century.
Too bad his devils spoke to him in the night. Of course, being hated
by most media didn't help either.
Consensus at the time was that, if he had said: "Hell yes, I
authorized the theft. But I didn't authorize the break-in and I fired
their asses. Now, let's get on with the election", it would have
blown over (except in the NY Times).
I, however, always thought it was as stupid as stealing the plans for
the Edsel. The election was a slam-dunk.
cheers
oz, who respected Nixon for a number of reasons

I suspect that is the case, meself. I've seen more and more authors
(most of whom I think are outstanding) self-publishing. (I don't mean
vanity publishers; I DO mean self-publish (via the web, or whatever).
